Independent Regulatory Agencies: Independent regulatory agencies are not fully under the power of the President, giving them the freedom to make policy without political interference. One important Independent regulatory agency is the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) whose goal is to protect consumers, as well as promote competition in the marketplace. If this agency was not around, the businesses would practice unfair and deceptive techniques which would hurt the consumer. Also the FTC enacts anti-trust laws that promote competition so that Americans receive low price and high quality items. Another agency is the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The mission of the SEC is to regulate the securities markets and protect investors. If the SEC were not to be around, investors would suffer from fraudulent behavior, and people could gain to much power by purchasing a large percentage of stocks in a certain company.
